How important is the 'college report' for transfer applications?

http://www.yale.edu/admit/other/transfer/pdf/form4.pdf

I don’t know my college dean! Professors, sure! But that’s it, really. I walk by a picture of him every morning but that’s about it. I tried to get in contact with him for some fast face-to-face and his secretary’s secretary (yes, she has a secretary too apparently) told me to leave the form at her counter and that he would fill it within 1-2 weeks.

I’m not expecting a glorifying recommendation here. “Student 312454239-98 is in fine academic standings”. And even then it might be a stamp. Oy. :(

I would think what your professors have to say about you is most important. I’m sure that Yale understands that not everyone has a chance to get to know their college dean, just like for freshman admissions they understand that not everyone really knows their guidance counselor.
