Took a practice ACT given by the school in the spring and got a 29 (same as PLAN test predicted in 10th grade). Studied over the summer and took the September ACT, got a 34 C (33M, 34E, 34S, 34R), super excited BUT got a 22 on the writing section.
Applying to Tulane, Santa Clara, Vandy, U Michigan, USC. Some require the writing others don’t, right now Tulane is top choice and they don’t require the writing (I think)…
Only a Junior, so may add/delete schools from the list before applying.
Retake the ACT or not? I can’t imagine a higher composite score but the writing could be improved.
C34 is exellent! Check with all the colleges you’re interested in to see if they even care about the Essay score. If they require it, take the ACT again. You might get C35! And the Essay score should improve with familiarity.
If your Composite drops a bit to maybe C33, but the Essay score jumps up, then talk to the colleges and see if they recommend sending both sets of scores. I’m pretty sure they will see your 1st attempt at the Essay was not really you but just someone learning how to do the essay for the first test the way the new format requires. So the colleges might ignore the Essay score from your first attempt.
You really have nothing to worry about. You’re in really good shape! But check with the colleges.
Thanks, that is a good point. Both Tulane and Santa Clara do not require the Writing section, so probably going to stick with current score.
