I’m on my schools figure skating team and have gotten a varsity letter every year since freshman year. There’s an A, B, and C team and letters are awarded by a point system - how often you skate/compete individually etc. I’m on the B team. Next year, senior year, I can be on the A team.
The letter isn’t difficult to get, are athletic director made it so only upperclassmen can get them for skating now because too many girls were getting them. The team meets once a week.
My question is, will colleges know that a varsity letter in figure skating is much easier to get than some other sport?
How valuable is a varsity letter in a sport that you’re not very good at and could never pursue past high school?
Schools don’t care about a varsity letter. I think they care about seeing you involved and committed to something whether it’s a sport, club or job.
Unless a person is a recruited athlete participation in a sport is considered on par with any other EC that requires a similar time commitment.
