How Intense do you have to be?

To get into a good medical school and eventually become a respected/well-earning doctor

I mean look at this guy, over 100 publications:

[Hossein Jadvar, MD, PhD, MPH, MBA](http://www-hsc.usc.edu/~jadvar/)

Wow. He must’ve been in school for decades. Look at all those letters after his name! I wonder if he goes by Doctor Doctor Jadvar (as he has 2 doctorates, after all). Or if he framed all his diplomas and credentials in his office. Bet that’s quite a shrine!

I wonder why this piece is hidden so carefully:

Hollywood, Health & Society (consultant to TV show writers and producers – “House MD”, “CSI”) (2008-2010)

Looks like you can be that intense and you can be that successful, but you’ll have to make some huge sacrifices to get there. Are you willing to sacrifice your 20s and 30s to complete all those degrees? What about family, friends, leisure activities? There’s a lot more to life than what your job is, so I think having the energy and desire to devote your time to other endeavors is worthwhile. (Then again, by the time I’m done, I’ll probably only have 2 sets of letters behind my name–guess I’m a slacker!).

This is CC, right? And this guy did undergrad at Iowa State, and everyone on CC knows that is like the 100th ranked school in the country, so maybe he’s not too successful either… I jest. This guy is pretty amazing and you don’t have to be that “intense”, but you do really have to want it because while it’s a great job, it’s a pretty long, expensive, hard journey to get there. Dr. Dr. Jadvar’s education and prolific publication history are truly exceptional and in no way typical of most “respected/well earned” doctors.
