How is a laptop sleeve supposed to fit?

I know this is probably a dumb question, but how tight should a neoprene laptop sleeve be?

Thanks!

Well, just enough so it feels protected. if you have a 13 inch laptop, you don’t want to buy a 17 inch laptop sleeve. Basically, a sleeve’s purpose is to somewhat protect your laptop from bumps and scratches if you are using a regular backpack so your books and other things don’t harm your expensive piece of machinery. I doubt it will protect against drops though so I would still be careful.

The word sleeve is misleading. Think of it as a padded thing you stick in your backpack or other bag and you see the fit isn’t really important.

I have a 14" laptop and bought a sleeve that’s for 14-15.4" and it was HUGE…like 1 1/2 inches on the top and 3/4 of an inch on each side…so my laptop was sliding all around inside.

I always suggest using InvisibleShield or BestSkinsEver on any electronics. Check it out if you’d like.

A trick I use to protect my screen is to put a cleaning cloth - like the one they give you with it - inside when I close the case. I make sure the cloth isn’t lying on the fan vents, which are usually near the hinge. When a case is compressed, the keys can leave slight marks. The marks are mostly bits of grease from your fingers that have transferred and can be wiped off but the cloth helps and then it’s there to use.

I’ve never bothered with a screen protector but I know people who like them.

I got a case today that fits nicely. It’s snug, but not so tight it’s hard to get my laptop in/out.

I see no reason for getting a screen protector like the Invisible Shield. I’m not worried about that. I’m worried about external damage that can/will come from having my laptop in a tote bag with everything else.

I find the best use for a sleeve is when you spill something or leave food in your bag. Nothing worse than crap like that in your computer.

Lol. Yeah. I figured a sleeve was the way to go because I tend to switch bags fairly frequently, and buying 3 laptop bags is excessive. I might buy one just because I do want a nice bag for college and it would be nice to have one with a designated spot for my computer, and then have the sleeve for when I want to use other bags.

The InvisibleShield protector usually comes in a kit that protects the entire laptop (and other electronics), not just the screen. The layer of plastic is very resistant to scratches and dings. I use in on my MP3 player and it looks like the day I bought it almost 2.5 years ago! The protector is hardly even noticeable to sight or touch, too!

But if you are worried about spilling things and crumbs on your laptop, it doesn’t guard against that, and you have bigger things to worry about.

I know all about the InvisibleShield because I sell them all the time. But I have a case which will protect my laptop when it’s in a bag and as I said, I’m not worried about the screen, so I’m not interested in spending more money on something worthless to me.
