How is economics major of undergraduate in UR

I was recently accepted in financial economics by UR. I’m an international student. So I kind of focus on ranking of major I applied; however, I couldn’t find ranking of economics major in UR. The only thing I know that, Simon school of Business(graduate) is well renowned. Please give me some information about it. I’m trying to make decesion among UR, UIUC and University of Maryland, College Park.

As an undergraduate, you can take courses through the Simon Graduate School of Business; investigate that website for more details. UR is known to have a very strong economics program, and if you google Freshwater economics program, a wikipedia article will come up about “freshwater” and “saltwater” economics programs. At UR, the economic school of thought is more laissez-faire, similar to UChicago, which fits into my views, though you may feel differently. There is also a website about their undergraduate economics program which can be found with google as well.

I can’t speak for your financial situation, but I think UR offers a lot of opportunities that are very research-oriented and hands-on that the other schools you mentioned would have trouble offering (unless you were in an honors program). This being said, all are great schools, and finances tend to have an influence in many people’s decisions; I know it is a huge factor in mine.

Best of luck with your decision.

Keep in mind, there’s no undergraduate ranking. However, I can confidently say that in U Rochester you will get one of the best educations for Economics. For graduate, UR’s econ rank is consistently in top #20.

Persoanlly, from your choices I would simply disregard UIUC, if financing is not a big deal. UIUC is much more known for engineering and sciences, and although their business is decent, its prestige does not mach your other choices.

Good luck with your decision.

Thank you very much for your advice and information to both Jamie and mando. But based on my research, UIUC’s college of business is ranked among top 20 in undergrads. I’m just not sure why you think it’s not a good choice. I personally also tend to go to UR actually, but I have to consider more factors as an international student, such as career opportunities from where college is located.
