I am currently attending a very highly ranked liberal arts college. However, for personal reasons I have decided to transfer somewhere else and I recently received a generous offer from Evergreen State. I am aware of its reputation in the Washington area, but if I were to transfer here, how well would it prepare me for medical school and what would medical schools think of it? (I am looking to go into neurology or genetics counseling.)
Adcomms understand that family circumstances change (financial issues, divorce, illness, etc) and that this sometimes necessitates a transfer, often to a less expensive college. They view this as no big deal. A transfer will not impact your chances to gain admission to med school.
No college “prepares” you for med school. You do that yourself. All colleges offer the coursework that forms the basis of the MCAT. It’s up you to learn the material and prepare yourself for the MCAT.
I asked this question on a forum for premed students, and one suggested that Evergreen’s narrative evaluations might actually make applications easier.
The UW likes Greeners because they go into Family Med.
How’s that for a blanket statement?
