When you transfer from a CCC to UCLA, is your previous GPA averaged with your UCLA GPA when you graduate to give you your overall GPA…or do you start with a fresh GPA?

Also, I know it is recommended to follow the IGETC program when transferring from a CCC to UCLA. However, is it okay not to follow this? And if you’re not following it, then is the Foreign Language Requirement no longer needed to be accepted into UCLA?

I’m majoring in Political Science. I checked the prereqs that are required for me to take to transfer to UCLA…and I’ve completed all of them except for one bc it’s not offered at my college. I also just need to take a Stats course for the major. Other than that, I read on the UCLA page that I need to take certain GE courses that it had listed…and I’ve already done that as well. The only class I have not taken is a Foreign Language class. I took Spanish in 7th and 8th grade, and then 3rd year of Spanish when I started high school in 9th grade…but I don’t know if this even counts bc it says ‘equivalent to 2 years of high school is needed’…but that’s only if I were to follow the IGETC plan. If i don’t do IGETC, I’m assuming I don’t need to take a Foreign Language?

A friend of mine waived her foreign language requirement for UC’s because she took about a few years of spanish in high school. She got into UCLA. You should ask the UCLA transfer counselour about this to make sure.
