IT engineers?

Do you mean computer or software engineers?

I hope they get jobs.

What exactly is an IT engineer?

IT is not engineering. There is no wit or thinking required. I’m pretty sure michael jackson’s pet monkey can do it after ~2 weeks of training.

I could imagine IT as requiring engineering skill set, depending on how it is defined. If you just need someone to set up a server for an office building, that’s not engineering. But if you need to establish a world-wide supply chain to transfer information back and forth around the world as efficiently as possible, I could see an IE/CS connection there. Couple that with courses in the design and construction of equipment used for information transfer (CompE) and a course in the programming of such a system (CS), and you get an interesting interface of engineering fields that leads to a new field you could call IT Engineering.

I don’t know of a US school that offers such a program, but it’s conceivable that someone does internationally (and the OP sounds like he’s international). As for salaries or job opportunities - no idea. A typical IT professional makes $40,00-$50,000 /yr in the US, you you could use that as a minimum.

thnx G.P.Burdell !!!

thnx for the explanation !!

It’s not really an explanation, it’s just a guess of how a theoretical IT Engineering program could be constructed. I’m not saying that one exists, just that it could (to refute UIUCfinest’s assertion that IT involves “no wit or thinking”)

can u help me out in the thread !!??
