I’m currently maintaining all As, and I’m aiming for colleges like Tufts/Williams/Amherst. Don’t know any standardized test scores yet, GPA is 4.13.
1° EC’s: it’s not about quantity, it’s how far you go with them, the impact you have. Don’t add them,
2° Does German 2H, 3H, 4H exist? Do plan on taking the SAT Subject during junior year (check the dates, I think it’s offered only twice a year)
3° Are you a VERY advanced musician (nationally known, recorded artist, or at the very least lots of experience with all-state choir/orchestra)? If not, take Music THeory junior year and AP Music THeory senior year. It’s a HARD senior year class.
4°English 9+10 Advanced or Honors for sure, as this will be the strongest foundation you’ll use in every course.
5° APUSH is a junior course, see if you shouldn’t take it then (consult with GC in case your school does things differently than usual HS)
What grade are you in?
Like @MYOS1634 said, it helps us to know your grade level, but looking at your planned schedule, it looks great! I don’t know if you’re a tenth grader or older, but if you are, have fun in Sociology! It’s an awesome class. Does your school by any chance have honors courses? If you’re an eighth grader rising to ninth grade by any chance, try to sign up for Honors over regular courses if possible as they will prepare you for future APs better. Are advanced courses in your region honors courses perhaps?
While it’s always good to have background, it is also not necessary to have regular Psychology before AP Psychology. It will definitely be beneficial and help you, however, most schools do not require you take regular Psychology before the AP, and the curriculum for AP Psychology is made assuming that students have no background in it. If you feel like replacing regular Psychology with something else or moving that class to junior year, feel free to!
This also varies per school, so I recommend you check with your counselor and/or in classmates or upper-classmates, but if your school has AP German, it may be a good idea to replace that with German 5. This is because in my area, Level 5 is very, very similar to AP, so they actually stopped offering it recently. If this applies to you, I recommend signing up for the AP because the curriculum in both are similar, and moving AP Psychology to junior year if your school does not require regular Psychology beforehand.
Sorry if anything I said doesn’t apply to your school as they can vary. Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope this helped.
Best of luck and have a good day!
Thanks, both of you! I’m a freshman, by the way. Sorry for not saying that.
@MYOS1634 my school doesn’t have any honors english classes, or honors foreign language, sadly. As for AP music theory, our schools must be very different… I took regular theory this year and my teacher told me I would have been fine in AP.
@anthonytheboy Again, no honors courses… I don’t think my school has any at all, which sucks. and yeah, psychology is required before AP, although my guidance counselor told me that may change soon.
Thanks so much for the feedback
If your school has regular music theory which can be followed with AP music theory, it’s very likely that some of the content taught super quickly at the beginning of AP music theory in other schools is taught in regular music theory at your school. And therefore everyone is better prepared for AP music theory plus there’s less content to cover since a little bit has already been done in regular music theory. Most people find AP music theory super hard because it’s their first music theory class.
@king.eli I’m sorry about that! Either way, good luck and have fun next year. You should be able to take AP Music Theory because you signed up for regular this year. From people at my school who’ve done it, the ones who did claim they did regular like @MYOS1634 says, say that it’s not too bad. The people who say it’s too hard are the ones who didn’t do regular before.
Have a good day!
