How is the first day in grad school !

So how’s the first day in a grad class?
I’m going back to school after 6 years and my Under grad degree is a foreign degree. Basically, I don’t have any experience in attending classes here in the united states

I’m wondering what to take along with me? A notebook and a pen may be?
Anything else that I need to take care of?

What sort of program are you going to? I’m at a biomedical-related grad program and we never really had an offical “first day” – it was more of a ‘rolling start’: different orientation meetings, social gatherings, start in a lab, then there was the first class. But all of these events were on different days, so I never felt that I had a ‘first day’ of grad school. But, yes, I would recommend bringing a pen and paper to most things, and perhaps a calendar of some sort to write down (if you keep a paper calendar, or your laptop/ipad/phone/whatever) important dates.

As an international student here in the US, you will have an orientation week about one week before classes start were they will explain life in the US to you (They made me talk to new international students several times in these things because I’ve been in the US for about 8 years now).

You will also be told what to expect by your Dept. (Deadlines, grades etc…)

Thank You guys. You made me feel better.

This is a Informations systems/computer science program and my first day of is on monday. I’m a little nervous but just trying to get things ready so that I feel less stressed. The first class in on monday 9AM

I’m taking a notebook and a pen. Also, take a small notepad, which I usually use to maintain appointments/dates etc.

The orientation for international students in before the Fall semester and I am starting in the summer, most likely the orientation will be in the summer.
