<p>The part of New Orleans where Tulane is located…is it a nice area, stuff to do? Or is it damaged/depressed by Katrina still?</p>
<p>It is beautiful. The Uptown Area of NOLA is one of if not the most beautiful urban neighborhoods I have ever seen.</p>
<p>As for things to do there is not a great deal of shopping but there are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and some nightclubs nearby. Across St Charles from Gibson Hall is Audobon Park which is the lovliest city park I have ever scene. It also has a golf course and a zoo and runs down to the Mississippi river.</p>
<p>The damage in the Uptown area is pretty much all repaired now. You might be able to find some if you look hard but there is nothing that sticks out. That is not true of some other parts of the city but this was always a wealthy section of town on high ground with many a mansion. The most notable damage persisting is the absence of the St Charles streetcars. It is taking a long time to get the line back up and running for a variety of reasons.</p>

<p>I am the parent of a student. I have been there both pre and post katrina and have made two trips down this year, most recently in May.</p>
<p>Everything higherlead says is true. I am a student. Audubon is a really nice park, and its a relatively short walk through it to get to the levee which is a nice relaxing point. Otherwise, anything he said.</p>
<p>higherlead, i COMPLETELY agree! UPtown is probably the most charming and picturesque of any area of any city i’ve ever seen (besides old montreal lol.)</p>
<p>It’s a great area. Lots to do, but still very pretty.</p>
