How is the UCI Waitlist looking this year?

I just graduated last night…it was pretty weird having to explain why I still didn’t know where I was going.

@JeffreyO you aren’t alone man.

I also graduated yesterday and still have no idea where I will go.

I am thinking what they might do is possibly give us (a number of us) spring admission. Historically I don’t think UCI has done this before but I know that Berkeley and USC did this. They have taken people off the waitlist but told them that they are offered spring admission. One of my friends got off the USC waitlist but she was accepted for Spring. And Berkeley does this program for admitted students off the waitlist where you are not admitted for the Fall but you can go up to Berkeley and learn about how to succeed in the school and then you can attend for the Spring. So anyway UCI might offer us admission for the spring quarter or next year but I really don’t know. If they do that I will go to community college for some time and just transfer in during the spring.

I even asked that question yesterday, but they don’t have/offer any winter, spring quarter admissions.
Maybe Berkeley , but not UCI.

@Javacash01 UCI doesn’t allow new students to enter during the spring semester because they run on the quarter system. Only universities such as Berkeley that go on the semester system allow new students to enroll for the spring semester.

Ohhhh yeah you’re right. Well anyway I just truly hope they find a way to let us in

I’m really wondering why the took down the date…

When you are accepted or rejected they’ll definitely say “YOU’RE IN CONGRATS” or “SORRY CAN’T DO IT” right? The date is gone now, but it’s still a little confusing because of how long they dragged this out.

Hey everyone, I’ve been looking at this thread for a while but decided to actually make an account to reply. I called yesterday to ask about why they took the date down. The lady on the phone said that they did so because at this point they are not sure when they are releasing the decisions and don’t want to keep making potentially empty promises. She also said that they’ve already made their decisions, but that those higher up are blocking them from releasing them and that they don’t know why. She kept saying it was a weird situation, for which I agree. What could possibly force Admissions to not release their decisions? Either way at this point I’ve lost hope basically.

So
A lot of kids have ~4.0 GPAs and high test scores but didn’t make it into the top percentile thing to get guaranteed admission to a UC
So since the UC system is pretty much totally centralized they want to deny the kids who have guaranteed admission elsewhere and accept the kids who were not guaranteed admission
So right now the governor and the head of the UC system are arguing
The head of the UC system wants more students, which would mean denying the guaranteed acceptance students because they’d just go to another UC, but the governor won’t give her the budget for it so the only way is to cut the teachers’ tuitions
So this argument between the head of the UC system and the governor is what is delaying the waitlist

I’ve been reading this thread just out of curiosity. I was admitted last week on an appeal. I was initially rejected, so I was really surprised it worked. I am confused as to why they are notifying appeals before the wait list!
I hope you all get in though!

@boopboopbeep Do you think those that were guaranteed admission to another UC–which basically was UC Merced–but denied it with only a CC left are in the “guaranteed admission pool” or the rest?

@tired567 If you had been denied admission yes
If you decline admission no

If you think that “guaranteed admission” thing is true then why would it only affect UCI?

Anybody noticed any trends in the waitlist decisions from last year? Anxiety is killing me at this point.

what if you only applied to one UC? lol this is so confusing

I don’t see how that makes sense then. Basically people who have UCI as their only hope at a UC will get in as a charity case? And those who got accepted to ANY other UC (no matter which one) will be rejected? That doesn’t sit well with me.

That’s because it’s not true. If you weren’t good enough to get in to UC merced then you didn’t get wait listed for Irvine or other higher UCs so its not even applicable. Plus the governor stuff is fabricated because the budget already got passed weeks ago between Governor Brown and UC head Napolitano

Ugh, this situation is lame.
