I learned from reading many review books that memorizing thousands of SAT vocabulary is useless. Is studying just the vocabulary of the College Board Book enough to ace the sentence completion and the vocabulary related critical reading questions? If the College Board Book is good for vocabulary, how should I approach studying the vocabulary from the book. Should I get the vocabulary words from just the sentence completion and the critical reading sections. Is there anywhere else where I can study the words from the book. Should I study definition number 1 or 2 or both for each word?

I would recommend studying the Barron’s SAT Word Lists, regardless of what people have told you. Chances are that the CollegeBoard won’t repeat the words in the blue book or any of their other resources. The best way to be prepared is to know as many words as possible. You will notice that most of the words in the blue book are in the Barron’s Word Lists.

Which barron’s word list, the 800 word word list or the 3, 000 word word list?Is it possible to learn the 800 word word list within 2 months. I know it is impossible to learn the 3, 000 word word list in 2 months.

Maybe 10 words per day?

but is just studying the 800 word list from the barrons verbal book good enough to ace the critical reading section relating to vocabulary?

800 words is probably not enough, but the 3000 probably is. SInce you don’t have enough time for the 3000 words, start studying word roots in addtion to the 800 words.

Is Barron’s better than the PR WordSmart book?

My vote goes to WordSmart.

I think the Barron’s verbal book is better than the Princeton Review’s Word Smart book because the Barron’s Verbal book contains 800 words while the Princeton Review Word Smart only contains 200. Also should I waste time memorizing word roots for the SAT? I mean the SAT does not test how much vocabulary you know, so isn’t it pointless trying to memmorize word roots?

Only 200 words?

The first WordSmart book (3rd edition) has about 800 words.

Blue Book doesn’t necessarily have words that the SAT will never have again, or in the near future. I think it just represents a small amount of the words they actually can use.
