How large are introsems?

I’ve heard that the maximum is 16 students. But on courserank somebody says that some are significantly larger than that, true or false?

There are one or two odd ones which allow more, but this is usually because the extra students do not detract from the seminar. The one I knew with over 16 students was called “Japanese Companies and Japanese Society”, and it only met once a week. Every week, a speaker from Japan would come to the class and speak about what they do, and students would ask whatever questions they wanted to. Having over 16 kids didn’t really change anything about the class, so the instructor allowed it. I think the class size was 25.

This was an odd case, though. I would say 99% of introsems max out at 15-16 students.

The stated max is 16. Almost every department stays under that, except one or two that go between 20-25 students - these departments are ‘censured’ when they do that. The average class size for all introsems is 10.

I’ve had two IntroSems. One had 15 students, and one had 5. They were both excellent.

thanks guys, that was really helpful :)
