Hello y’all!
I am sophomore in a public school, and I am originally from Turkey, so English is not my native language.
I moved to the United States in eighth grade; I wanted to get tested for my math level, however they refused to let me take the exam as I was from a different country and it would’ve made it harder for me to adapt to the education system here. silly reasoning, I know. Anyways, I am trilingual; I speak Turkish, English and German, although Turkish does not necessarily count as it’s my native language. I basically self-taught German to myself with some help from my school in Turkey. Currently, I am learning Spanish at school, and I believe I am in between A2+ and B1 level in Spanish. I also play the violin.
Academically, I challenge myself all the time. but during my freshman year I had two honors classes as I was terrified of biology even though I finished with the highest average in my eighth grade class, and of course English. Luckily though, I excelled in all of my classes in my freshman year, and was in the 16% of my class(I know it’s not very good, but that’s because I did not take all honors classes and I had an A- in entrepreneurship) This year, on the other hand, I have all honors classes and so far I have all straight A’s. I’m considering on taking 3 AP’s next year as our school does not offer variety of them; AP Lang, AP Chem and APush. I wasn’t too active during my freshman year, but I did Speech and Debate, I was the secretary in the freshman student council, and I did crew. Unfortunately this year I couldn’t bring myself to do secretary for the sophomore student council due to the fact that the guy who I shared the position with committed suicide and it kind of left me with a traumatic experience. Buuuut, I am establishing the MUN club with two other students from my school, making me the co-founder of the club this year. I am still continuing on with Speech and Debate, and crew. Via crew, I am going to be able to make it into the Thespian society which I think looks good for college since it’s a society. I additionally began teaching Turkish people English through social media since there is not a lot of Turkish migration to the U.S. and my town does not offer programs for non-English speakers who only speak Turkish:/
I know that it’s hard to make estimates and predictions since I did not take the SAT or ACT yet and I am only a sophomore, but does it seem like I have a chance of getting into schools such as Columbia University, NYU, UCLA, USC, Boston University etc.
