So, this is my rough personal statement for the financial aid appeal (rough draft). Note: I was enrolled at Jefferson community technical college and two years ago, I took one class through a program called metroversity which is offered by JCTC. So, I took one class at the university of Louisville. Which turned out to be a bad idea because I was working a new job, taking three classes at JCTC and one at UofL. So, all in all that one class I took at UofL stayed on their transcript and my GPA went down to a 0.0. Now, keep in mind that there is only one class on that transcript from two years ago. I unfortunately did not pass it. I bit off way more then I could chew and I never thought that one class would come back to haunt me. Here is my rough draft and sorry for the lengthy post, I am just a nervous wreck.
What happened:
Two years ago (spring 2015), I was enrolled at Jefferson Community Technical College and decided to try the Ultra program (Metroversity), which enabled me to take a class at the University of Louisville. Unfortunately, I was not able to excel that semester. Being at a new job on employee probation meant having to work mandated hours and overtime that was beyond my control. Since I was a new employee, I did not have much of a voice in the matter.
I was overly anxious and eager to try out the aspects of Metroversity and I extremely overextended myself that semester because I had to travel between two college campuses (JCTC and UofL), taking a few classes at JCTC and one at Uofl; while working mandatory overtime and various shifts at my job proved to be an over exhausting experience for that semester. I would have never thought that this one class would come back against me two years later.
What has changed:
By the late summer of 2015, I was taken off employee probation and my employer could give me a work schedule that is more geared towards school. No more overtime, no more mandated hours, no more various shifts and no more travelling between two college campuses. Since then my employer has been very supportive of me pursuing my higher education. Ever since I got a schedule from my employer that works around my school schedule it has changed the tide of education for me drastically, in good perspectives. Since then I have maintained academic guidelines and maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher, now I am graduating! I have been studying hard and long hours to get where I am at.
I will be receiving my associates degree in arts from JCTC in august (2017) and I got accepted to the Kent School of Social Work (Upper Division). Three professors from JCTC and my employer wrote and sent in letters of recommendation on my behalf to the Kent School, I should start this fall given everything gets situated with financial aid. I am really hoping this one class from two years ago does not stop me from achieving my goals, it is the only class on the University of Louisville’s transcript and it was a stupid decision two years ago. I should have known better to overburden myself. Since then I have done everything I needed to do for my education. Graduating with my associates degree in august (2017) is more motivation that I will ever need and I hope all this shows that I am a good student and that I will be proficient at the University of Louisville.
I have attached documents from my employer and from the records office at Jefferson community technical college. Thank You.
