<p>At least one company that does a lot of business in the Caribbean had their stock price jump today on the Castro news. I imagine today there was many a business dragging out long-drawn plans for resorts, casinos, and cruise ports in Cuba. There’s an island there called ‘The Island of Youth’ – just how long before that’s developed? I give it 10 yrs before it’s the Cancun of Cuba…but I hope not. Hopefully the Cuban government will be more like Costa Rica or Belize in how they manage their tourism. But it’s big business and big money and they may not be able to resist.</p>
<p>Castro type socialism has cause the cuban people to become extremely lazy and worthless. The chinese have always had a strong work ethic. The only cubans with a strong work ethic were strong enough to leave that country and come to America. It will take a hundred years before Cuba approaches the industry of China 20 years ago.</p>
<p>Perhaps now there can be a democratic transition in the United States.</p>
<p>razorsharp: Seriously? Obviously Cuba isn’t exactly a shining beacon of industry, but their people are some of the best off in the developing world, with universally high indices of human development - education, health outcomes, etc.</p>
