How Long can Parents' Insurance Policy Cover Grad Student ?

Thanks to the new healthcare law, we can cover kids until age 26. But what about auto coverage? Renter’s insurance as a rider on homeowners policy? Just curious, haven’t made the phone call. Probably varies from carrier to carrier.

I think if you own the car, you can insure whoever you want as a driver. Renters insurance? No clue.

Renters is cheap enough to buy separately. Auto insurance allows you to cover anyone but they often care if the person lives with you - or is at least in the same jurisdiction because place influences rates and even whether they’ll cover a person.

I was told by my agent that my son can stay on our auto policy as long as he lives at our address.

^^^or is a full-time student…Not sure if graduate or undergrad makes a difference. Good question, though–we’ll soon be crossing that bridge at my house.

Our auto policy is indefinite as long as we live at the same address. When I moved premiums more than doubled. O_O
