And how did you go about finding one? (for example, newspaper ads, Indeed.com, networking)

And how did you go about finding one? (for example, newspaper ads, Indeed.com, networking)

Also, what kind of job did you get?

Networking. It always works better than other methods. I got a job at a state park (last year) and am going back this year. I also just helped a friend get a job there (and hopefully my brother will be interviewing there, too). So…networking. My job during the school year I got when I drove by the store and it had a “now hiring” sign outside. It was a very easy job to get. (I also almost got a job a the restaurant my brother works at - it just wasn’t full time there).

There was one other job offer I got from a library. I think that the key to getting a job if you can’t network is actually going into the workplace and turning in a paper application and resume. The online process is too distant to give potential employers a good idea about you. (i.e. if they see you they can find out if you look decent, you know, no excessive cleavage, no gang symbols tattooed on your face, etc.).

Oh, I also know people who have gotten the following types of jobs:

painting at a local university
life guarding at a local water park, university, state park, and neighborhood pools
library
fast food chains (i.e. wendy’s, steak 'n shake, etc.)
petsmart
dick’s sporting goods
labor at a state park
corn detassling at farms
local zoos
daycare’s and a hospital nursery/daycare
other seasonal jobs
