How long does an ARIS code last?

I’ve asked this question twice to people on these forums, and they told me it lasts for a whole year. but then I just saw somewhere else that they really only last for a quarter o_o

can someone clarify this for me?

If it matters, I’m referring to the ARIS code for the Chem 6 series…

I activated my ARIS code for chem6b and used it for 2 quarters (6b and 6c) without renewal. I think it’s safe to say it definitely lasts more than a quarter :D

i think it last about 2 years

It lasts a year, I’m pretty sure.

quick question about ARIS CARDS and Books
so for Chem 6A we need the Aris card thing with the book. Now should we buy the book new? or should we buy it used?

here is the book:
X* Principles Of General Chemistry Vol 1 W/aris Card (ucsd Custom) Not Returnable If Openedü, Volume 1, 2 Edition, 9780077470500

so if we buy it used from the UCSD book store will the ARIS card work for sure?
also if we reserve it form the UCSD book store, we will only get charged what we select right?

You might get a working ARIS code if you buy it used, but there is still a chance that you won’t. So I would suggest buying the book for 6A new (so you would have an unused ARIS card), and then buying 6B and 6C books used (since your ARIS card from 6A would still be valid).

wait so since we need those ARIS things, we kinda need to reserve through the UCSD bookstore. Now the they have their Reserve Your TextBooks thing on the site, but it doesn’t say which ones. So do we go there and select the ones we want or pay for all of it and then get an immediate refund for those not needed when you go and get the books, or just go there in person and buy it yourself?

for the buy it yourself option, can we go say next week and pick get them or do we need to wait until Move In Day [I’m Commuting so it doesn’t make a huge difference to me]?

first, do not reserve books from the bookstore. it’s a rip-off. you can buy the entire chem 6 series book (comes as one text instead of having 3 parts) and still get an ARIS code with it, if i’m not mistaken. so you might as well buy that instead of ordering brand new books from the bookstore. you can find the chem book on amazon.com, there should be a version that comes with an ARIS code.

are these the books?
first = chem [complied edition i think]
2nd = MMW [5th edition]

@spatel23 thats the right book for mmw, but I think it’s cheaper at the bookstore isnt it? ($130 compared to $80) oddly enough…
as for the chem, I havent taken it yet but that does look like the right one. but someone who knows for sure should verify.

That doesn’t look like the same version of the chem book I had. I think our book is specific to UCSD, and it’s broken up into three volumes (one for each quarter of the chem 6 series)

@iamahorse
yeah the UCSD was “custom” so it was 1 book for each Chem 6 section [A/B/C]
this is the combined book which is much cheaper :slight_smile: but still the same

Yeah, I can confirm that that’s the actual book for the whole Chem 6 series. So I guess if you buy that, you’re all set.
