They only take discover card… no other credit cards, the other way to pay is directly out of your checking account.

I’m not sure how long it takes to show up on mybill… probably a couple days. If you know the amount, you can schedule a payment to be made whether it currently shows a balance or not.

Also, direct payments out of your (or your parents’) checking account are cheaper because they charge $12 for every transaction charged to the discovery card. You also have the option of paying via regular mail and you could theoretically use a charge card check to pay, if this works best for you.

(discover card gives 1% cash back though so in some cases it’s actually cheaper to pay with discover rather than out of a checking account - dispite the $12 fee. For example - fall tuition around $2200 would give $22 cash back, minus $12 fee, is a total of $10 cheaper to use Discover - assuming you pay your bill in full at the end of the month & don’t collect interest)

From a parent’s perspective, I just think it is good to not encourage racking up college tuition charges on credit cards. Most parents that might not be cash flush have college tuition loans as options and the limitations on direct payment methods might get people thinking a little more closely about the long term consequences of loans versus credit card payments. I know there are many layers to any argument on this subject (some like to charge just to get the travel miles) and no easy solution. My point is that you can still pay with credit card services if you really want to but I am really trying to keep the debt to a minimum for my daughter’s undergraduate education.

for some reason i don’t see anything on mybill.ucdavis.edu, but i can see it through the “student summary” section under SISWEB. so i clicked “pay by eCheck” underneath that page, but it won’t even let me. i put in my routing number and stuff, and when i click continue, it shows up as an error.

do you guys know if i can pay with a savings account rather than a checking account?

I don’t think that Pearlinthemist was recommending racking up college fees on credit cards. It only works if you pay off the credit card balance monthly to avoid any finance charges, which you should do anyway. It’s an even better deal this quarter as Discover card is offering a 5% cashback bonus for college expenses including tuition until September 30th! See http://www.discovercard.com/discover/data/cashback/cbbpromotion/college.shtml for details. Note that you have to sign up in advance for the promotion, it’s not automatic.
