So I just got a bike and Im pretty shady with it (the gears and the LOCK!). It takes me really long to lock it (I’ve got one of those ‘U’ locks). Firstly, I am still learning the optimum position of the bike to lock it. It takes me almost 90 seconds to lock it in the bike rack. And about 1 minute to unlock it, then another 45 seconds to lock the lock on the bike’s neck while I ride. Is it just because I’m new with it and will get better with time or what?

Also, is just locking the wheels of the bike safe enough? because they say we should lock the wheel and the neck with the pole.

You need to lock the wheel and the frame, or one or the other will disappear. It was a fairly regular occurrence last year that I would walk out my door and see a lonely bike tire locked to the bike racks by itself, or a frame with no front tire.

I lock the front wheel and the frame, since the front wheel is much easier to steal than the rear wheel. Then I have a cable that loops through my U lock and the rear wheel.

I have a U lock, I lock the frame and rear wheel to the rack. It takes me about 5 seconds to do. Same time for unlocking. You’ll get faster at it.

Also, you don’t need to lock it to the bike while you’re riding. Just hang it from the handlebars.

Dude…you’ll be fine.
