How long does one GE course take to complete?/How long GE lasts?

Hi all,
I’m still not very good at finding this information!
So I’m from an art major, and these are my GE requirements:
[School of the Arts and Architecture: School Requirements](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/catalog/catalog11-12-47f.htm)

That’s 8 courses…how long does it take to complete them usually?
And for e.g., if I am going to take a “Historical Analysis” course, how many hours of class would that be for me per week?

And how many GE courses do people take normally per quarter?

Thank you!

1 GE course → 1 class

1 class -> 4/5 units

4/5 units → 3 hours of class a week

11 weeks → 1 quarter

3 quarters → 1 academic year at UCLA

People usually take anywhere from 3-4 classes or an average of 15 units per quarter. GE’s are up to you! If you hate them, you can put them off until your senior year. If you love them, you can take them all during freshman year. Or you can do what most people do and scatter them around. I took a GE every other quarter or so.

Thanks for that information; makes it so much simpler!

Haha alright, because someone told me I must finish them within 2 years when I thought you just need to finish before graduation. In that case, 38 units doesn’t seem too bad I guess?! (Want to spend more time on studio art classes)
