How long does the registrar take to verify a student has graduated

My daughter graduated Dec 13, and the registrar is saying they can’t verify her graduation to employers for about 6 weeks. Is this common? So much for starting a job next week.

IMO it’s likely due to the holidays and new semester start up. I think my firm figures four weeks to get the response. They won’t let her start pending verification?

The job she got was from an internship the university set up for her degree. I would have thought the company knew how long this would take and would have set her start date appropriately. She isn’t the first student to graduate from there. Also would have thought her department would have provided some guidance. It is a small specialized department with 18 students in the program.

Yes its common and processing speed depends on a number of factors. The registrar may process majors that need to take outside licensure first and the general population later. I’m pretty sure my registrar processes all the nursing grads first so they can apply to take boards. And yes, December grads may take longer because the institution is dealing with more at a time when the U closes and lots of employees take vacation.

Most colleges are completely shut down for 2 weeks at Christmas, including administrative offices.

Are all of her grades posted for the fall semester? On occasion, that may hold things up.

Your D can send her final transcript with a “degree completion pending” notice… the registrar should be able to process that in 48 hours… that’s how transcripts get sent during senior year for grad programs and fellowships- grad schools know that you can’t verify graduation in February, but they do accept the most recent transcript as a placeholder even when a final degree verification is required in order to enroll.
