I’m schedule to attend UCLA’s orientation this coming Monday and though i’d like to stay for the entire event, I have a scheduled doctors appointment for 4pm. I just this appointment as well, considering this is the soonest my doctor can see me, concerning a serious issue. My doctor’s next available time isn’t until Friday, which is too far into the future, bearing the pain i’m feeling.

I’m wondering, based on other’s experiences if I’m setting myself up to miss something big/important at the UCLA orientation…

The website states they have activities and lectures planned till the evening, though i’m hoping the important bulk of it all will take place by 3pm so I can drive home to see my doctor.

Well, you sign up for your classes at 8pm, which is perhaps the most important part of orientation. I would try and change your orientation date if this is a really serious medical issue.

As i’m sure you know, I don’t wanna change my date… I just wanna get it done.

When I’m at UCLA this monday, at my discretion I think i’ll just be able to call my doctor early in the morning, say by noon at the latest and reschedule for thursday; foreseeing if it looks like i’ll have to stay at UCLA till much, much later.

I agree with the post above. The earliest you can sign up for classes is at 8 P.M., and that is done with your orientation counselor. That is the most important part of orientation.

Why don’t you just drive to your doctor’s appointment and then drive back in time to register for classes? Your appointment shouldn’t take longer than 4 hours right?

Yeah, it literally takes the whole day. Reschedule your doctors appointment. It should be noted though that you can get pretty much all the advice for registering for classes on the forums here, so it’s not that big of a deal. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the registration system.

Just make sure you get back at 7:30-ish and meet up w/ your group so that you can do your registration! (get your leader/advisor’s number so that you can contact him/ her!) I ditched most of the workshops as well so I don’t think it is a big deal…

between 230-7pm there was just a gap for you to go to optional workshops/shop for bruin merchandise/get dinner so you can go to you doctor’s appt then. though at some point between 130-5pm you will be meeting with your counselor to pick out classes (half hour appointment). i suppose you can try to figure this out before hand but you will need to do it before you attend orientation? otherwise you will need to figure it out with your counselor.

your best option would be to try to reschedule something so that your appt and orientation dont coincide. it really is an all day thing… minus the workshops, which i spent my entire time looking up potential classes
