How long should the “why Northwestern” essays be around?

Mine was between 700 and 750 words.

What do everyone write ? Since i’m international I’ve not been able to visit the campus…

All I can think of is Medill (awesome journalismprogram) and that it simply feels like the right school for me :P

about 650 words

From Northwestern magazine few years ago:

The following is an excerpt from Mari Fagel’s application in response to the question: What are your reasons for wanting to attend Northwestern?

An aspiring broadcast journalist, she framed her response as a news story.

@Sam Lee

That idea is incredibly stale. I’m sure it was well-received when it was submitted however many years ago, but I’d be offended if an NU admissions officer found that creative nowadays.

i am just trying to show that it doesn’t have to be long and that one can frame his/her response in different ways. it can be very short and still well-received. it’s creative at the time if no one else did anything similar before. obviously, now that you’ve seen it, it wouldn’t be creative if you do the same. but i’d disagree if you are suggesting the quality of applicant pool is much stronger than it was few years ago (2004).
