How long to self-study AP stat?

Also which review book is good? Can you use your calculator and just program everything in?

Don’t get Barron’s…you will waste time overpreparing.

My suggestion is that you learn how to use ur calculator WELL…that is key to this exam, since you can use the calculator for the entire exam. So basically I would just get an AP Stats textbook from your school (or even library) and skim through it in a weekend. Pay close attention to the Statistical Inference chapters and probability.

After that, just get a bunch of old AP exams or review book exams and just PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. You could probably learn and study for the exam in like a week or two if you are dedicated.

^ and MAYBE get a 3 if you did all that. Stats isn’t easy, contrary to popular belief. I took the class, got an A both semesters, thought I understood almost everything on the test — and got a 4. :(

Hate to say it, but I opened my Barrons for the first time at 12 AM the morning of the test, studied until 4 AM, slept in until 11:30, then got up and took it. 4. Very stressful, but it worked.

I would just study out of Barrons if I was you. It’s extremely comprehensive, and what topics they include that are a little cloudy aren’t covered much on the exam, and if you want to make sure you touch all the bases you can just look them up online or in a library.

Practice exams never hurt anyone either.

Good luck.

considering SpecialPrancer’s post,

I must add that in order to also be successful, you probably need some kinda of intuitive math background. If your SAT Math isn’t at 700 or so, you probably don’t have the right kind of math processing. The AP exam is all implicit problem solving, where you need to figure out what tools and functions to use. If you can master that, you can get that 5.

But yeah, I’ll also agree that it isn’t as easy as people claim. If I had done what refulgentis did, I probably wouldn’t have passed. But if you are willing to condense a full year’s worth of work into a spring break or a week or two, you CAN be successful!!!

I got a 5, and I paid attention in class, took meticulous notes, did ALL the homework assigned all year, and read the book religiously. And all my work paid off.

i would recommend a textbook for any math or science studying.
The Practice of Statistics by Dan Yates [ISBN 0-7167-4773-1\ is very good…
take around a month to get hang of it, a little a day.
i got a 4 on stat but i didnt study much at all and never did my homework.

Which of these exams are easier and a better choice to take Edexcel Alevel or CIE Alevel or AP or AICE diploma?

I did this this past year.
-Buy the SparkNotes AP Stats review book (I think it is blue)
-Skip the first section completely, provided you’re not an idiot
-Skim the section about study design - just learn about the errors, and learn the definitions of blocking, normal, and random (about 2 days at most)
-Spend a solid week (2 hrs/day) in the third section: be sure you COMPLETELY understand t, p, and chi, what they do, how they work, and when to use them.
-Spend two days taking the practice exams, going over your mistakes, and reviewing an areas you consistently foul up.

This 9 day cram session will almost certainly give you a 5 (provided you’ve reached trig or so in other courses); even if you don’t fully the above verbatim, you can be more or less assured of passing.
