<p>So I got into UMD as an out of state applicant and they still haven’t finished my financial aid. I really want to go and am ready to give my deposit however we’re waiting on financial aid before I officially enroll. Do colleges have to provide you with your award before may 1st?</p>
<p>Since you’re an OOS student at UMD, I don’t think you can expect much aid at all. What was your EFC? If it’s above Pell amounts, then you may only get a $5500 loan from the school. OOS publics usually have to reserve their limited aid to instate students.</p>
<p>Call the school and ask where your FA package is.</p>

<p>Two years ago, we never got a FA award letter from Brooklyn College. They didn’t answer phone calls, or give coherent replies to emails. We had to go down to the FA office to get the information we required.</p>
<p>I asked about an award letter, and she looked at me like I had grown horns.</p>
<p>So don’t wait - be proactive and get the answer you need. If you can afford it, THEN place your deposit.</p>

Also is the expression “grown horns” mean that a person is personified as the devil?</p>
