How Many AP Subjects Should I Take???

Hi There,

I’m currently a Junior taking:

AP Micro
AP Macro
AP Chemistry
AP World History

How many APs should I take for senior year? because I’ve heard that college apps consume a lot of time.

Currently, I’m thinking of taking:

AP English
AP Calculus AB
AP European History
AP Physics

Should I add AP French (I’ve taken normal French throughout High School) or AP US History…or even both???

Appreciate the help.

Most colleges are on the common app these days, so the only time consuming thing now is the essays. Most colleges have their questions available in August, and in fact, you could start working on your common app essay now. As long as you aren’t auditioning for music, theater, art, etc, college apps really are not too painful.

I would try and push yourself. Don’t try and fool yourself that college apps take a long time. They do, and you will spend a lot of time on them. But if you start in the summer, and you’re applying to no more than ~10 schools, the college apps process isn’t that bad.

AP USH is a lot of memorization. That’s it. Some have trouble with AP French –– I know that AP Spanish got a lot harder this year, though I don’t know if they increased the difficulty of AP French as well. If you push yourself in senior year, time will go more quickly, and I’m sure, like most, you will welcome that fast final sprint to college.

i recommend starting apps over the summer so it’s not as huge a deal, but 4 APs sound good…what level of colleges are you applying to?

language would be good, but if you’ve got honors, feel free to take that. however, it’d be nice to be able to demonstrate proficiency, either on an SAT II or AP exam…also, if you’ve already taken World, why bother with Euro? you can take the exam if you want, but could probably easily self-study…i’d lean towards US if I were you…but world will fulfill your multicultural requirement for most schools. good luck in May!

Thanks for the replies guyz,

I’m taking AP Euro because I’ve heard colleges value it as a good class because not many schools offer euro. My school only offers 12 APs and no honors classes because its an international school. I plan on taking normal physics at Andover summer school and coming back and taking AP physics.

I have a 3.8/4.0 weighted GPA and a 2070 (680/710/680) SAT 1 (Only a junior atm). I’ll do my SAT 2s in may/june.

I plan on applying to all the ivies, rice, vanderbilt, emory, duke, nyu, umich, chapel hill, ucla,uc berk, stanford - basically all the elite colleges.

Also should i take AP calc AB or BC???

How do colleges evaluate the number of aps and the specific subjects of those aps when deciding admissions??

Also my 9th grade GPA is kinda messed up…lik 3.57. But then it went upto 3.93 sophomore year. Do they care a lot bout 9th grade GPA???

Thanks for the advice people!
