I’m planning to take Chinese Language and Culture, US History, and English Language next year. I’m homeschooled, so will probably have to self-study them.

Is this already enough APs, or could I take European History or Psychology as well?

Also, when/how should I start preparing for all of these?

^might be why I got a 3…my teacher gave everyone in my class a copy of that book but I never opened it cept to do the practice test in the back at the end of the year.

Not all AP tests are created equal.
Of the ones you mentioned, Psych is really the only one that’s considered “easy” or relatively manageable for self-study.

Lang is not hard at all if you’re a humanities person/love writing, BUT since it hinges on your essay-writing and interpretation skills, this might be difficult for a homeschooler. I would suggest talking to other homeschooled students for study tips.

If you’re a native Chinese speaker, I doubt AP Chinese will be difficult, but colleges will know you’re a native speaker so they might not put a lot of weight on the 5 you will get. If you’re not a native speaker, bravo, just take a lot of diagnostics and study A LOT because native speakers throw off the curve and make it difficult for non-native speakers to do well.

US History and Euro are both very detail-oriented, so make sure you know your stuff. Also, they both have DBQs, and you need to be able to write those well to put you in position for a 4 or a 5.

Basically, it really depends on how old you are, how much experience you have studying APs, and the resources available to you. And on what you hope to do with your life. If you are aiming for a high-caliber school, it’s good to take advantage of AP classes, but not so many that your scores suffer.

I think you should do:
United States History OR Euro (because it’s a similar kind of AP exam)
Lang (because it’s a fundamental thing that colleges want to see you can do)
Psych OR Chinese (generally thought of as “easier”, assuming you’re a native speaker)

I’d be in senior year. I’m applying to some of the top colleges, but I want to go for quality on these, not quantity. I might also be busy finding a part-time job till September… I’m not a native speaker of Chinese, btw.

I’m already studying for the SAT II in World History (although I’ve never taken any APs before), so I don’t really need to take Euro History. Psychology just interests me more than anything else, but I’m not sure if I should just focus on 3 exams and doing them really well.

If you want to do sports (on a club or nearby school, since you’re homeschooled), I say stick to three. Otherwise, four should be fine, but keep in mind that’s at least an extra hour a day of studying!
