How many APs?

So I finished my sophomore year and I’ve only taken AP World History which seems like nothing compared to some other people who have taken like 5 and they’re freshmen. However, my school doesn’t offer many AP courses and AP world is the only one for sophomores. I’m taking APUSH because the teacher at my school is horrible and I’m considering taking it online or self-studying because I had a friend who did that and she said it was way better. I want to try and take as many APs as possible because I would really like to get into Duke but I know its not likely. A lot of the AP classes I was going to take have prerequisites that I wasnt aware of and now its too late to take them. I’m planning on taking AP macro and either AP bio phsysics or environmental.
Right now I have a 4.0 GPA I play a varisty sport, I’m in art club, I play an insrument, I an assistant choreographer at a middle school drama club, I take dance and hep with a younger class and help with a theater group for developmentaly disabled adults. oh and I’m taking a “college credit bearing” spanish class.

so I guess my question is, do I need more AP courses? and is there even a chance of me getting into Duke? I know its hard to say without SAT scores but I havent taken them yet so just base it of what I’ve got. And let me know if you have any suggestions about which AP courses to take.

I meant to say I’m not taking APUSH

You could probably self-study it.

I took 5 APs and got into USC and UCLA. I know people who took more APs and were rejected from one or both of those schools. It comes down to more than the number of APs.

Dude, please keep in mind that average person accepted to Stanford had taken 4 AP classes…

Can you get into Duke while only taking 3 APs? Absolutely. Would it be easier to get in if you took 6? Most likely.

If there are prerequisites that are preventing you from taking the APs, and your school doesn’t offer many APs, it helps your case out a lot. When you apply to schools, your counselor will submit a report that tells them how many APs are offered at your school. Taking 3 is great if your school only offers 8. If your school offers 25, well, doesn’t look quite as good.

I strongly recommend self studying for one exam during your junior year, if you are interested in any (psychology maybe). If your school doesn’t offer many APs and you can self-study one, colleges will see that you are self-motivated outside of school, and it’ll look very good for you.

Thanks I actually want to go into psychology and I’m taking a class in it so maybe I’ll self-study for that one!
