How many Canadian Universities can you name?

Hello,

I know CCers generally know a lot about universities but I was curious about their knowledge of Canadian Universities. I always only hear about two or three select Canadian Universities while the rest don’t get enough mentions. So just tell me which Canadian universities you can name and it would be cool if you shared one fact about each of them. You have to genuinely know of them and not just read about them from the poster above.

Please no Canadians allowed because then it would be way to easy. I am curious to see if the lesser known universities are mentioned. Btw, I came up with 30 so I would be wowed if a non Canadian beat me. Thanks!

Some people have to know at least some.

Banting & Smithdale
lololol

no but really: McGill and U Toronto

University of Windsor…nice school right across the river from Detroit. Windsor is a virbrant city that is sometimes mentioned as “Detroit’s most interesting suburb.” It’s kind of a mini-Las Vegas in some ways, as it offers a lot of entertainment of the type that some might disapprove: the drinking age is 19, there is a large casino, it has an legendary number of gentlemen’s clubs (collectively known locally as “the Windsor Ballet”), and they have some amazingly lax laws about other “passtimes.” When the Super Bowl was played in Detroit a few years ago, a lot of the more adult-oriented festivities were held in Windsor.

University of Toronto
University of Ottawa
Waterloo - Good for engineering apparently
York University - My cousin goes there
McGill
University of British Columbia
Simon Fraser University - One of my CS professors went there

lol canadians can’t even beat you… there really aren’t a lot.

I’m canadian, but w/o searching, right off the top of my head:

1.U of T (industrial)
2.McGill (french)
3.UBC (ugly)
4.UNBC (no one goes there… too cold)
5.University college of the frasier valley (what?)
6.Langara University (just turned from college (which would be like a community college in the US) to a university this year)
7.Simon fraser university (a lot of the math profs were form stanford)
8.Lourier
9.York
10.Waterloo (good for comp sci)
11.Mcmaster
12.University of western ontario (good for business)
13.University of saskatchewan
14.University of manitoba
15.University of calgary
16.University of Alberta
17.University of victoria
18.Queens university (good for business)
19.Ryerson University

and that’s about it

Dalhousie, U of Prince Edward Island, Memorial U of Newfoundland. U of New Brunswick. U of Ottawa (bilingual). McGill classes are in French. Laval, U of Montreal, Carlton University.

(I’m American but have a degree from Toronto)

Eh not too good with Canadian Universities but:

University of Toronto, Waterloo, and McGill come to mind.

U of T
McGill
UBC
SFU
WLU
York
Waterloo
McMaster
UWO
University of Calgary
University of Alberta
University of Victoria
Queens university
Ryerson University

Those are the ones I know. My dad’s old company had an office right near McGill, so I visited pretty often. I also stayed at UCalgary for a summer program. Awesome dorms.

Uhhh none…

I feel like the ignorant american here ):
I think it’s just because I never considered going to Canada to study so I never really cared about the colleges there.
Kind of like how I bet none of you could name any colleges in Argentina without googling them.

We’re not in close proximity to Argentina.

Touche.

Mexico, then.

Im not sure if that argument works… Canadian universities are very good … only US and UK maybe has better universities overall… there are countries like australia and Japan that have good universities but Canada has a bunch of good ones. Also, recently many Americans are coming to Canada since its cheaper. Maybe you should look into some.

I could name three off the top of my head before reading this thread: McGill, University of Toronto, and Memorial University (the only reason I know about it is because a friend of mine is a grad student there). I don’t think most Americans get much exposure to universities outside the States.
