I’ve met several people from CC but did not know any of them beforehand. Most have been during trips to NYC and we’d meet for lunch or dinner, or even just a drink if that was all that was possible. I’ve never recognized anyone here on CC who I knew in real life but the reverse has happened.

Through theatre-related ‘stuff’, I’ve recognized a few people from their posts here. The funniest one was an individual who made quite the impression on CC’s theatre forums a few years ago, and who caused so much hullabaloo that it ended in a banning! I was at an event and knew who this person was and when I saw her at this event, I avoided her, even though there was no way for her to know who I was. Another guest who I happened to be talking to at that moment, commented to me very negatively about her and I just smiled and nodded, not giving anything away but understanding completely, and feeling kind of vindicated that those of us on CC were right about this person simply by her online persona.

There are so many wonderful people who post here. A few years ago, a very kind and generous mom from New England went out of her way to find an item sold in her area that I couldn’t get here, and shipped it to me for someone who was going through a difficult time. Like others, there are many people here on CC who I would love to meet and I wish someone would organize another get-together!

Well…is there an Outback Steak House somewhere off of 495? A bunch of us have free steak coupons:)

We got the tip about Santa Clara University from Carolyn (remember her???) a real honey and so helpful. And a big thank you to Mootmom (who also doesn’t post here anymore) for getting those Safeway gift cards when I could NOT order them myself for my SCU daughter!

I (and DD) met mootmom and thumperDD (at the same time!) on a visit to Santa Clara.
That same week I met Carolyn on a visit to USD.

Also met another poster, Binx, in DC; we were supposed to meet countingdown and latetoschool that day, but neither could make it at the last minute.

I would like to publicly thank Bromfield, whom I knew from another message board and who recognized me on CC - her D graciously hosted my D at Bryn Mawr, which turned out terrifically, made my D receptive to the idea of a women’s college, and now D is a first-year at Wellesley. I seriously think that door wouldn’t have been opened if it weren’t for her!

In addition to the clients I’ve met through CC, there was a very enthusiastic, happy current student on the Harvard board who turned out to be a fellow Veritone I knew quite well. I shouldn’t be surprised that Veritones are overrepresented among people who have so much fun at Harvard that we want to go on the internet and tell other people how awesome it is.

Not going to fully disclose, but yes, meeting CC parents IRL, in all sorts of venues, including Santa Clara, has been a blast! Bethie and I were lucky enough to have a local tie, and the connection has been wonderful.

I’ve wondered what happened to Carolyn, the poster whose D became friends with mine. Her blog seems to be gone.

I’ve met seven or eight CCers IRL (on both coasts), am in contact with them outside of CC, and am hoping to meet up with some more this year! There are a couple of adcoms who figured out who I was, though I generally tried to steer pretty clear of those forums when my kids were applying.

I have not had the guts to wear a “CountingDown” nametag at either of my kids’ convocations. I am afraid how many people will come up to me. ;)

I have considered a CC tour where I ramble about the country meeting up with my CC friends for lunch and hours of conversation.

Have a couple IRL friends who have posted here, too. One of them cold-IM’d me and said “Hi, I don’t have your email, but I figured out who you were!”

At one point I showed someone in S2’s IB program the CC website, and she seemed to dive in eagerly. Afterwards I had the horrible thought that everyone at the school would be talking about what I had to say about IB, yada yada. I never heard anything, though, so maybe it remains a hidden delight.

In that vein, I therefore want to thank those who have figured out who my kids are and have not blown their cover or mine on CC. :)

mominva, I was really bummed I was sick that day when we were supposed to meet up.

A group of us in the NY area met for lunch several years ago at Grand Central Station, and then did it again the following year. I’ve visited a long-time CC poster in the hospital, and also had lunch with two CC couples in Atlanta when DH and i were considering a job opportunity in the area. Finally, I’ve met some other CC people in Pennsylvania, also when considering a move to that area.

And my first CC acquaintance was the mom of a classmate of my DS when they were both freshmen. We met for lunch in a nearby town and compared notes.

Not many in my area are on CC. Once I recognized a kid from D’s high school class and that surprised me–sort of creeped me out. I’d be a lot more careful with my posts if people I know were reading them. Once I was exchanging PMs with another poster about a college her S attends–found out that we live less than a mile from each other and our sons are virtual clones.(We haven’t met–but we should!) I also helped a couple roommates connect through CC. (Hope they’re getting along. . .)

I’ve met several CC’ers in real life - didn’t know any before. I have email friendships with a couple CC moms, and I even talked to the legendary curmudgeon on the phone once!

I haven’t run into local people on CC much at all and just don’t seem to see a lot of Vermonters on this site. However, I have met many CCers in person whom I didn’t know prior to meeting online here. I have really enjoyed meeting up. Sometimes a member is traveling to my state and we meet or sometimes we find ourselves in the same city such as NYC, Boston, San Francisco and have arranged to meet. I recently even stayed with a CCer whom I had never met, when I was driving cross country and stayed at her house for one night on my journey. I would love to meet more CCers in the future. I have come to “know” many on CC over the years but haven’t gotten to meet all that I’d like to in person. But I have met a lot so far.
