Just curious about how many CCers have an after school. Are you just naturally intelligent and dont have to try or do you have to pretty much give up your after school life. I am not bitter or anything, I am genuinely curious. Just because I know I could get the kind of grades most of you guys get but I would have to really give up hanging out with friends and going on dates and things like that. Also extra curriculars to pad your application for college do not count as an after school life.

i do. thank god.

i have a life. no one really does anything during the week though, most of the fun stuff happens on weekends.

The only thing I’m gifted with is laziness.

i mean i play sports and hang out with friends during the week, even though i study and do ECs – its just about having a good balance…and the weekends are pretty much off (except sunday night)

I do. But it decreased constantly, starting last fall.

I do things on days off and during weekends and stuff. During the week, though, most kids do work (mine’s a good, competitive school). So I don’t feel…left out, or anything, for doing the same.

Last year, I barely did homework out of class. I worked after school everyday, then sometimes volunteered. Then I went home and was a lazy bum, sometimes hanging out with friends and sometimes just watched tv and im’ed on the computer. During the weekends…dang, I pretty much did the same thing year-round. Yep, I had pretty much no after school life during high school (I assume fairly typical of many CC posters), lol. But not because of overachieving stuff, just because I was very lazy after work and didn’t want to arrange hangouts and all that. This summer though, I go out almost everyday with friends to movies, food, or parks while still working full time. I have realized that hanging out with friends is actually way fun (long overdue), and the only thing that is suffering is my wallet.
And since I’m graduated, I don’t have to think about college apps ever again (well, kind-of).

Just like college, work during the week and party on weekends. Works surprisingly well.

Shoot I have a life lol.I go to school then practice lol & since most of my friends are on the swim team we hang after practice & “study” lol.I usually do my homework on the way to the pool and the next morning on the way to school[since im on a bus for like one and a half hours
] on the weekend im with my friends usually playin rockband with my coach or out skateboarding or BMXin.im also the concert queen lol. I go to atleast one every week usually friday night.but then again,my grades aren’t ivy material ;)

Everyone’s going to say they do. The only people who admit to having no life are probably so popular and outgoing that they do it for kicks.

NOTE: If you seriously LOVE UofChi, rethink your answer. I asked a tour guide what there was to do this weekemd around campus (it was a Friday), and she said, “an indie film and some board game tournament”. No where did I hear “party”, “club”, “dance”, “sports”, “game” or anything I personally relate to as social and fun. (That’s probably why I crossed out UofChi on my list and threw out the tour materials on the way out. DePaul or BU all of the way1)

I have an after school life…but unlike many people on here who seem to get by very easily without much work…i have to work like crazy to keep my good grades. I also actually volunteer at some places because i truly love to do it. I think it is fun and i do it with a lot of my friends.
i play sports and go on long bike rides a lot. I also ski a lot during the winter. I am mostly very active when i am not working. I like to work hard then play hard.(however ccliche that is…its true)

Our U of Chicago tour guide never talked about anything social except in the context of “taking study breaks.” She mentioned apple picking as a fun social event.

No where did we hear “party”, “club”, “dance”, “sports”, or “game.”

Every student we met seemed very happy there.

Yeah, they seems happy because they are a pretty self-selected group. They heard the rumors about the school and LIKED the idea of that kind of school. Some of us, who like spending time partying and dancing, don’t.

wait i am confused. i heard u of c kids are one of the most miserable kids in college because they just purely study

I have a great after school life, and that’s why I don’t have a 4.0…

Having alot of friends and going out to have fun is really important to me

Amen to that.
