i haven’t really been thinking in terms of how much clothing i’ll bring. i’ll just bring as much as i can fit into 2 suitcases and then put other miscellaneous stuff in another suitcase. i don’t have to fly to get to school so that makes things easier.

You don’t need all that, there is a laundrymat and thats what its for.

looking at this thread, im starting to freak out. do I have enough clothes? (NorCal weather)

5 polos
6 t-shirts + the free ones I will get
7 undershirts
4 dress shirts

12 boxers
10 socks

1 fleece
1 rain jacket
1 hoodie
1 suit

3 shorts
1 jeans
1 khakis
2 slacks
1 athletic pants
2 athletic shorts
1 swimsuit

2 flip flops
2 sneakers
1 formal shoes
1 workout shoes

now that I think about it, I have some shopping to do

Honestly Shazami, you have plenty. Is it seriously that difficult to do your laundry guys?

70-80 shirts. This includes going out shirts, to sleep in, tank tops, dressy shirts, working out, well just about everything.
About 7 pairs of pants
2 denim shorts
5 sweat pants
6 or 7 shorts
maybe 2 or 3 dresses
3 bathing suits

Hopefully i’m not over doing it.

ummm…70 shirts is WAY excessive. And unless you’re on the swim team, why do you need 3 bathing suits?

holy fcking **** 70 shirts? *** are you bringing an extra friend to college? 20 is more than enough. There are only 7 days in a week…plenty of combinations to go around

The more shirts i have the less laundry i’ll have to do.
Well just in case i go to a pool party, hot tub or take a trip to the beach or something.

And, long long ago, they invented these machines, that you put clothes and this soapy stuff into, and when you turn it on it goes round and round and magically your clothes come out clean.

Seriously people, learn to do your laundry lol. It’s not that hard. And trust me, you aren’t going to have THAT much room for clothes in your dorm. Take your home closet (provided you live in a typical house with a normal sized closet) and divide it by the number of roommates you have. Presto, the amount of clothes you’ll be able to fit into your closet.

Edit: You also have limited space for laundry to pile up in, so eventually, you have to do your laundry.

Well i layer a lot and some of those are to go out, others to work out in(i work out every day), then there’s lazy day shirts, shirts to sleep in etc.

Even so, 2 weeks is the longest you should ever go without doing laundry. And 20 shirts is more than enough to cover 2 weeks. Are you planning on going to a pool party or the beach every day? cause otherwise one bathing suit, maybe 2, should be plenty.

This is just about half or quarter of my clothes from my closet. The shirts really don’t take too much room cause they’re all extra small or small. I’ll do laundry but i rather do it less often than more.

Other than the closet I also get a dresser and i’m taking a 3 drawer storage case.

…so long as you have room for the 3 drawer storage case. Dorms don’t exactly have ample floor space.

You guys are starting to scare me now, but you guys probably know better than me if you’re an upperclassman. I’m still going to take everything i decided on and if it’s too much or doesn’t fit then i’ll just have my parents bring it back with them. It can’t hurt to have a few extras…

We have lofted beds in my dorm so i can fit it under my bed. The dresses has 6 drawers too so 3 of those will be mine.

I just…am trying to warn especially the people saying they plan to bring their whole closets…I have known people to be unpleasantly surprised to find they had less space than they hoped, and had to send things back home for lack of space.

Well I have a very small closet at home My closet at school will actually be an upgrade.

Well in that case, it shouldn’t be difficult for you to be smart about how much you pack, applicannot. You will not be in for a rude awakening like the people bringing excessive amounts of clothing. Enjoy your closet upgrade. =)

My dorm’s tiny, so I assume the closet will be too. All my t-shirts/jeans fit into one small box and pajama/socks/etc. into a duffle bag. Better than the first time I moved out! It’ll just depend on if you can visit home and swap out summer clothes for winter ones.

How I decided was I took just one small section of my closet, about a foot wide, and decided I shouldn’t need more than that.

And one tip I learned: no matter how much you think you “might need this or might wear it” if you haven’t warn it in the past year or whatever you’re not going to want to wear it in college ;)

Wow guys, what I’m packing feels very excessive (but I have a big closet in my dorm room). My campus is very fashion conscious, so that makes a difference too, plus I’m going to go through sorority rush. Here’s guesstimates of what I’m bringing:

About 8 pairs of nice shorts
10 pairs of gym/workout shorts
10 or 12 bras and around 20 pair of underwear
2 or 3 formal dresses
5 or 6 casual dresses
6 pairs of jeans (or however many I have)
6 skirts
15 camis
5 cardis
3 jackets
1 hoodie
around 10 t-shirts
around 10 dressy shirts
around 15 casual shirts
about 30 pairs of shoes (tennis shoes, flip flops, heels and flats).

I couldn’t live with clothing options, I probably will wind up taking even more than that though :/

Oh yeah, did I mention I want to work in the fashion industry? haha
