How many courses do TAs take?

I’m thinking about becoming a TA. Is the amount of work similar to a 2/3 credit class? Should I take one less class than usual so I can have time to grade/host office hours/etc…?

Let me know!

…I guess there are no TAs on this forum. haha

How do you become a TA? Do the professors ask you based on your grades?

I didn’t change the number of courses that I took; I TA for 1 class in the fall and 2 in the spring. Each semester I take 4 or 5 classes. Most of the time goes into grading, and you can do that at any time. But it really depends on which class you are TAing.

^ Me too, I have TA’ed a couple of courses in the past, but I chose ones with minimal effort, so it really depends on what course you want to TA

I T.A’d a relatively difficult class for 2 credits last semester and was also enrolled in 18 credits…the workload was similar to a 2 credit class and was totally reasonable.

So what was the process - did you just talk to the prof at the end of the semester

in the case were I TA’d (and the other cases where I chose not to TA), they contacted me first. generally it’s to do with getting a good grade when you’re a student in the class.
