State law rules this one! Every student graduating from a Texas university must have 6 hours of US History and either 6 hours of American Government including a section of Texas History, or 3 hours of American Government and 3 hours of Texas History

Ok, just ignore my last posting! The requirement is 6 hours of American Government and either 6 hours of US History or 3 hours of US History and 3 hours of Texas History.

Hey, I’m not sure, but I’m looking at the 2008-2010 EE Catalog that I got at orientation. It lists:

GOV 310L - American Government - 3 hours (you can place out of this one with ap test and gov placement test)
GOV 312L - American Government - 3 hours

And it also lists:

American history - 3 hours

And a second time:

American history - 3 hours

So it looks like we need a total of 6 hours of american history?

I don’t know if any AP tests will give you credit for the American history class. It would be good to know.

Yes. You can (and probably should) go ahead and take GOV 312L either during the summer at another institution (ACC for example) or by correspondence. I’ve heard this option is vastly easier. Several EEs I know have struggled with this class at UT.

To ensure that your credits will transfer, consult the transfer equivalency page ([UT Austin Automated Transfer Equivalency System](http://www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/ate/)). If you want an actual person to call, perhaps you can call admissions or the office of the registrar. I’m sure this question comes up very frequently.

Dangit, the one exam that I would have really really liked to get credit for, and I got a 3.

Is there any way to get out of taking HIS 315K and HIS 315L aside from taking it in the summer at a local CC? Could I possibly take the AP test again next year during my freshman year?

There are a zillion other history classes that count for the U.S. History requirement. My daughter took American Studies this spring and she really liked that. You CAN take 315K and 315L but you can take History of Hispanic Women in America or something like that, too.

I hope UT, we just went through this with my son. He had hoped to get gov312L from comm college this summer, but it doesn’t work, according to his counselor. So, he’s just going to take it this spring at UT. Another one he wanted to take this summer was the second English semester, but if he took it at a CC, he would have to take 2 classes to satisfy the 1 at UT, so he’s planning on taking it next fall pass/fail at UT.

What he’s taken at CC for credit was the other econ he needed (got ap credit for one), the second calculus course (got ap credit for the 1st), and a humanity elective, which it turned out he didn’t need :).

Because ACC and HCC don’t have a corresponding course for it. They have other government courses, but they don’t count for it in the sequence of 310 and 312.

That’s why they say that you should take both at one college. So, he’s taking it at UT during a regular semester.

Which CC are you going to? Do they have correspondance courses? I think my son would LOVE to get it out of the way over a summer instead of taking it for a full semester!!

eta: Correspondance - in that it can be taken online?

Brookhaven in dallas. Click the link in the 7th post of this threas and it will tell you what cc have corresponding courses. And I checked ACC and you were right, there is no corresponding course or GOV312L.
