<p>I actually knew a student (currently at Stanford, majoring in mathematics, I believe - either that or physics) who memorized 3,000 digits of pi. He recited them in front of an auditorium a few years back (and no, he didn’t make up any numbers; he gave us a sheet of paper with the first 3,000 digits on it and told us to follow along). Last I heard, he was working his way up to 5,000, though I imagine if he’s still going through with this little hobby of his, he might be at 8,000 now.</p>
