How many electives do you get at the University of Central Florida?

<p>I wanted to be a Psychology major on a Pre-Law track, and I wanted to know if I could have more than one elective. I wanted at least art and Spanish…</p>

<p>Errrr…I don’t know about colleges having “electives” like high school. There’s gen eds which give you some wiggle room in topics. There’s also tech electives for engineering upperclassmen. But no where in my college’s 4 year roadmap does it say “take whatever you want”.</p>

<p>My uni has “CORE” requirements which every single student has to take, college/major core requirements (so for instance, all business majors have to take two accounting classes, introductory finance, marketing, info systems etc), concentration requirements (so if you’re doing finance you take all the finance classes that are required) and then you have electives. You can take quite a few lower-level electives and you have to take one or two upper-level electives that are not within your major.</p>

<p>Basically, you take all the required general education classes/core requirements, all your major classes requirements, more possibly if you’re doing a pre-something track, and then you might have room for electives (or another major or minor) to fill out the remaining minimum total # of courses required for a degree. It depends on your major…hope that made sense. If your major and gen ed stuff fills up what you need for a degree, you can always take extra classes that you want to take, if you can find the room in your schedule and pay the extra fees sometimes.</p>

<p>You can take whatever classes you want as long as you’re also taking classes toward your general education/major courses. </p>

<p>As you can see you will have some wiggle room depending on what courses you’re taking. Without extra approval steps you can always take a maximum of 17 credits a semester in the Fall and Spring and 14 credits in the Summer. If you can manage your time well I don’t see why you can’t take a few courses you really want to take. =)</p>
