When applying to a highly selective school (e.g. Harvard, MIT, Stanford) how many extracurriculars do they ask for on the application?

While correct, that does not imply that all 10 must be filled in. Quality is preferable to quantity. For my own application, I believe I used 5 or 6, 3 of which were sports.
Reportedly, Andover suggests no more than 7. My kids both got into elite colleges and they used all 10 because they all showed leadership across a range of activities.
No, my kid didn’t not fill in ten spaces. I think she had seven filled in. She left off some stuff if it wasn’t important.
