How Many Honors Classes Should I Take?

Hello everyone,

I am currently a freshman in college but this isn’t my first semester doing college. I took both spring semester and summer semester and did very well and the classes were very easy. Therefore, I felt like I could handle Honors classes. Now I am current registered for two honors classes and I am not sure if this is too much to take on. How many honors classes should you register for each semester?

Here is what my schedule basically look like

HONS Political Science

HONS History of Film

Drawing

Introductory studio (which basically teaches you how to be an artist)

Art History

Work 10 hours a week

Is this too much for a freshman? Are there is secrets to acing honors classes?

A lot of times it really depends on the school. For example, the honors classes at my school aren’t harder, they’re just more in-depth. In a class about… I don’t know… World Literature, we may cover two stories really in-depth and analyze the crap out of them while a regular class covers five stories in less depth. Other schools, however, require honors courses to have at least 50 pages of writing and 200 pages of reading or something. Others may just have higher level standards, like a sophomore-level class for freshmen. Do you know the details about your courses?

^And still others only use Honors for TAP certification where you need to take x number of Honors courses to become certified (for me, it’s six)

It varies… in one of my classes (film history) we use the exact same book but we analyze the sociological aspect of how the effected society. In my political science class, we use a totally different textbook then other students. One is a bunch of scholarly articles about American government and the other one is general overview of American politics but it goes more in depth then the standard textbooks.

Also both of these classes have more reading assignments and pop quizzes.
