How Many Hours For ECs is TOO Much?

I am writing down a list of my community service, part-time job, and extracurricular activities.

When I totaled the amount that I spend on everything, it came out to be huge! How much is too much to the point where it becomes unrealistic?

30 hours?
40 hours?
50 hours?
55 hours?
60 hours?
65 hours?
70 hours?

I’m gonna have to say honesty is the way to go. Calculate and be honest. You can only hope they’ll love you for who you are.

When I calculated it, it came out to be about 60. I calculated it by basically tracking it for two weeks. Truthfully, I multi-task (for my actual classes) and study for English in Math sometimes, etc. which helps a lot with my time, but I can’t believe it came out to be 60. Also, when I’m in the lab researching, I do homework when I’m waiting an hour for results.

Does that seem realistic? Seven days a week, about 9 hours a day? I think you should only count the time that is purely the activity. For example, I wouldn’t consider the pre-meeting of a club to be part of the EC; I’m waiting for everyone to arrive. Apply the same logic to your ECs, or it will seem unrealistic.

Why not just tell the truth?

Ok … WITHOUT counting h.w. or outside work you do for ECs, what does your total come to?

Only include hours spent AT meetings, etc.

I think this is a very stupid question…Just be honest on your application and do not lie!!
