How many ,would you estimate, Interational Olympiad medal winners(internationals) apply every year??i hear that there are 100 spots for internationals and i was just curious…

I am one of those medal winners, but I did not apply as an international student. Came to US a year back.

BTW, I am an EA deferral.

I guess about 30-45 should be a legitimate guess.

A lot…
there are at least 1500 international medal winner each year, assuming only tenth of them apply to USA…

^^^WOW, I was way off.

SYNCHROTRON: Which olympiad?

I think he means all of them.

hi synchrotron…which olympiad did u participate in??so i guess not all olympiad winners get in??becuz i was getting very anxious(international here)…but i am almost sure that all rsi kids get in(there were like 60 internationals on RSI so i guess there are 40 spots available…)

Not all RSI kids get in. Not to mention the number of international participants at RSI every year is around 25, not 60.

hey goldenratiophi,

I got a silver medal in IPhO i.e. international physics Olympiad on July 13-22, 2007, at IRAN (forgot the city). I was a part of India at that time, now the eagle.

^^^That’s not a hook by the way.

an IPho silver is not a hook??dude i think that u are probably in at any college!!am i mistaken??

^^^Well…That’s why I was deferred EA lol, certainly there was a genuine reason for it I guess.

^i have no idea why would mit defer u though…

Already on the site, I have met an IChO-mate from Venezuela. Plus off-site, several of my Olympiad friends are applying. Answer: A lot.

No medal is a hook. My mentor was a perfect scorer in the IMO and was rejected.

I’m not a medalist (I didn’t even get into AIME, hopefully I will this year), and I still applied. I guess it’s okay if non medalists applied.

But then again, if an international PhO medalist got deferred EA, I wonder what are my chances…(rhetorical question)

Maybe they really do care about the essays.

^I think it’s pretty obvious they do…

Either way, the people on this site intimidate me… :(

hpa10:

^They intimidate me too. But after a while, you kinda get used to it.

After all, CC is like the place where the overachievers in your school group together with overachievers around the world, making us normal people feel unaccomplished. (actually, even we aren’t that unaccomplished compared to most people, but relatively speaking when we compare ourselves to these geniuses, yea we are pretty unaccomplished).

I BSed my MIT essays, so I guess there goes my chance of getting into MIT.

Wow, I got semi-finalist for IPhO and got honored at district meetings and newsletters and stuff…

I guess in comparison that means like almost nothing…

^how the helll?

wow admissions are becoming more arbitrary by the day…
