My dad only wants me to apply to five or six schools, but there are ten schools I really want to apply to.
How many is too many? Is ten excessive?

10 is an okay amount if you can afford the apps

Agree with ten, but prioritize them so if you tire of the process, you can stop. Make the last two or three your least favorites, put a couple rolling admission/ early action( not binding) in the first group, and go for it.

10 isn’t usually excessive but find out why he’s objecting. Is this is your father’s way of saying he doesn’t like the additional schools you want to apply to for some reason? Is it the cost of the additional applications and test reports? Is he afraid you won’t have the stamina to follow through on that many applications and the money will go to waste? Or that you are applying to 10 because you haven’t done the necessary homework to really figure out where you belong? Without a clear understanding of what his objection(s) are, you can’t respond effectively.
