How many moms here play video games??

When my son was younger, I used to play Crash team racing on playstation with him. It is a comic strip car racing game through a variety of different courses that is most fun if played with a live opponent. I have bowled or golfed with him on Wii too. I have never touched xbox or any of those realistic ultra violent war games that he is so addicted too (like Call of Duty and Halo). I don’t know of any parents who do.

Silvermoonlock, oh, yes, I remember the Commodore 64.

As for video games, my husband is a big fan. He has every game system created, hunts thrift stores for old games, and has even written some games and had them released. He still writes articles for video games magazines and works on special projects when they come up.

That said, I will never be able to get my son off of video games, as since Dad is an addict, so is son.

But in the long run, it seems to have paid off. Son has a natural gift for computers and is doing quite well in engineering in college, something his high school math teachers would have never thought.

As for my efforts at video games, my husband had a Frogger game for Atari 2600, where you could set it on easy so the frog could go off screen on the right and come back on the left. It was the only game I could play. And I could actually get to the third level. I did try some games with son when he was younger, but when Nintendo 64 came out, I got left in the dust. I could not think three dimensionally. I did enjoy the graphics, though. I love anything that simulates a beach, riding in a submarine, giant squids, anything to do with water.

I have never played any games and neither have either of my daughters. I don’t have boys.

I’m uncoordinated and can’t imagine controlling anything with my thumbs. I don’t even use my thumb to text.

Dr. Mario on Nintendo 64, is the only thing I have ever played!
Think it went to college though, so H & I can’t play it, I don’t miss it, just a diversion.

One word. PONG. So that would be a no from this mom.
I will Wii bowl if that is the party game of the moment.

But tell your son not to worry, I am sure we all waste time (decompress, whatever…) in other ways!

Not unless CC counts as a video game.

My sons are addicts. My younger daughters get into some of the kids’ role-playing games (Wizards 101?) Boys thought it was very funny to get their 4yo sister playing Age of Empires. Nothing like saying “Baby, it’s bedtime!” and hearing your “baby” reply “Just a minute–I gotta KILL these guys first!”

Nowadays, I play backgammon and Scrabble on my iPad. There’s also a couple of sudoku games and one of those Mah-jongg games also on my iPad that I also use. I play against the computer in backgammon–first one to win 10 points wins the match.

Who has time for video games? I spend all my spare time on CC!

I can report that, many years ago, I found all 99 bombs in Minesweeper in something like 77 seconds. I knew I would never break that record, so it was just no fun after that.

At least on CC I can tell myself I am researching colleges for my daughter.

77 seconds? You rock!!

jym, a Mii is your Wii person. When you turn on the Wii fit, the whole family’s Mii’s are shown, and their girth is in proportion to your weight! Mine is quite plump, D1’s is average, and D2’s is slim. I have one that hasn’t exercised since about January!

I have tried a few times to play video games with the kids on the wii, Mario etc just doesn’t hold my interest. I would never attempt the Xbox with S.

Thanks everyone!! Will show him this thread.

I do like playing solitaire, tetris etc sometimes (loved donkey kong!).

Tried Guitar hero with sons, failed miserably. Hated Xbox live games too. Am happy surfing the net or just being on CC ;)

I don’t play anything these days. Years ago, I was top scorer at our neighborhood arcade for Tanks. I also was pretty darn good at centipede. I did like playing Wolfenstein - the first few versions. Now I just look at the Wii console and sigh.

I too had big plans to use my son’s Wii after he left to try Wii Fit. Unfortunately he took it to college with him and I have no desire to buy another system. I used to like to watch my son play when he was younger - especially the Zelda games but I would suck playing them myself.

My husband and I enjoy Beatles Rock Band. Great game. He plays the bass usually, and I the guitar. We both play drums, too, but the foot pedal is difficult to coordinate. We also play regular Rock Band, but that’s much harder.

And we use the Wii to stream Netflix!

No I don’t play.
Son plays at home and also at school. He likes the basketball games and also some of the more violent games. D2 will play sometimes with her brother and Dad. D1 would not have a clue as to how to even turn the machine on. H does play. I am embarrassed to say he is waiting for some war game that is coming out in a couple of weeks. Granted he is not a frequent player. He will play a new game till he completes it. He does not play them live.
