Will make up for average grades (about a 3.6) and good but not fantastic SATs (1440/2240)

I also have very good SAT2 and AP grades…will have taken 10 APs by the end of HS and have had interned and volunteered at some pretty nifty places

So far I have one national award and am aiming for a second

If your bad grades are mostly from freshman year, than your overall gpa won’t ruin you.

There is no magical number of national awards that will get you into Columbia, and I urge you not to think that the application process works like that. You need to have an overall strong application, but by all means go for a second award. It can’t hurt.

When was a 2240 a bad SAT score lol?
That is not just a good but a great SAT score. I’ve checked the average SAT score of Columbia College and the SEAS on collegeboard.com and according to the the average for the College is 2100 and for the SEAS 2150.

From the advice I’ve been given on this site so far, it’s you’re ESSAY which can make the biggest difference.

“collegeboard.com and according to the the average for the College is 2100 and for the SEAS 2150.”

stop lying, this isn’t on college board, they publish the range for the schools combined, it’s also for the enrolled and not the accepted student whoes average would be marginally higher.

This process is never about numbers. 20 worthless “national awards” in competitive eating or something won’t get you in. Winning the US math olympiad might make you very competitive.

to the OP: asking this quesiton is worthless unless you specify which national award you are talking about. If the one that you earned is impressive enough, it won’t matter what your GPA is. However, if it’s just a lame award, then you can get 20 and it will have little to no effect.
