How many of you weren’t planning on going to college?

I know; odd asking this question on a college advice website, of all places. So, to maybe phrase it differently, were you ever at a point in your life where you didn’t feel that college was the right choice for you? And no, fearful of not getting into the college of your dreams doesn’t count; have you ever flat-out decided that college wasn’t the way for you?

For the longest time (I’m a HS senior), I didn’t feel like college was the right choice for me (I had a career in mind, but it easily required a college degree – it ties in). I didn’t know anything about the whole college process anyway, and the counseling department at my school was absolutely horrid. I’m sure I could’ve found a ton of information about college admissions on the internet, but I didn’t seem to care (there wasn’t anyone in my family attended college as well).

So, as a CA resident, I started my UC application the weekend before it was due (that Wednesday? I can’t remember). I picked four UCs at random, because I didn’t know anything about any of them. I turned it in later that day, and never thought about it once until just before the decisions came in. To bring it to a close, I’ve decided to go ahead to college when I was accepted. I’m just wondering if any other students felt the same way, or at least, “discovered” college much later in their life.

I have friends like that who arent planing on going to college. My best friend is set on becoming a car mechanic. My other friend is essentially going to as cheap a college as possible, not for the experience, but to get his CIS degree.
