bluejay - love that! My D hates dirty sheets and, while she changes her sheets every week, she hasn’t been doing the laundry. I have a feeling she will learn to hate dirty sheets less at college. She’s doing all of her laundry now - a little late on my part, but better than not at all I guess.

bluejay - What a great idea about the envelope/$! I might do that, since I am curious to see if my S will ever wash his sheets.

cameliasinensis - We all have “strange habits” and I won’t tell you mine. Your ironing is a positive one, at least! I agree that listening to NPR is relaxing and can make almost any odious chore easier to do.

My final decision about the #-of-sheets-question is one set of XL twin, plus one leftover XL full size flat sheet that I bought years ago for my D and she never used. He can keep an extra flat sheet under the mattress for emergency use either as bottom or top sheet. I also will send a total of 4 pillowcases, since he will have 2 pillows. He gets one cotton blanket and one big fleece throw, but no comforter. If he is ever cold at night, I’ll send more.

I got everything at JCPenney store or online and am very happy with the quality.

If kid ever would wash the sheets, it would be thrown in the washer with the linens, LOL.

I like Penney’s too. I have also bought singletons at TJMax, Filene’s and other discount places. One warning; when buying irregulars, sometimes they do not fit the bed well at all. I remember one striped sheet, in particular where the stripes slanted from end to end. Just like some of those irregular towels cannot be folded neatly as the corners won’t match. Not that my kids would notice!

Even if the $20 bill got washed, it would be fine since money paper is almost like cloth. We wash money by accident around here sometimes. Maybe I’ll just pin the money to the pad, and not put it in an envelope.
