How many sets of sheets does a freshman need for the dorm?

I know this is really vital information  I couldn’t find it mentioned on the Parent Cafe dorm supply lists.

I have heard many students never wash their sheets. Are you sending more than one set of sheets with your child?

I’m going to send two sets; on the off-chance that he does actually wash them, he can put clean ones on his bed in the meantime. ;)

I’m planning on two sets too, because I envision someone throwing up on them, or someone dumping a whole pitcher of … milk… or something like that.

Two…but then I have a fastidious daughter who washes them every week (and believe me, I find this shocking!)

One for males and two for females. But that’s a generalization.

Send two sets. Don’t ask any questions. . .

We sent 2 sets and daughter did change them, but not weekly.

I had 2 sets. Changed them every two weeks :)

Two sets: one for daily use and one to save face at the annual Parent’s Weekend.

One replacement per annum. The second pair should survive the four years of show and tell.

Good idea xiggi! DS started with 2 sets first yr; he just finished his second yr and now tells us that he will need new sheets since he tossed his first set after the first year (but never told us) and then got rid of set 2 at the end of this yr. He’ll be going back with 2 sets, although I know he may not use the second set - unless he spills some milk or something…

Send two sets, even though set two may only be used in an emergency. Mathson’s stayed in its package, but I’m still glad it was available.

I sent two sets. I’m going to ask S1 if he used both…I’m also going to ask if he washed the sheets before he put them in the store n lock for the summer. Ewww I hope so.

I say, send one – if the kid NEEDS another set, she/he will ask.
So many kids find it easier to just wash the first set and then put it right back on the bed. (That’s assuming they wash it anyway.) The other set just takes up room. In case of an emergency (that pitcher of… milk) they can borrow that extra set from their friends.

Mom of three boys: I am also a mom of three boys, and have the same question for S1. I’m afraid…very, very afraid…

I’ve gone two years on one set. I wash it and put it right back on. I’m getting new ones because after washing every 2 months or so that set got worn out (cheap) and I’m getting a new set of sheets next week.

And FWIW, can you buy just a fitted sheet? I don’t use the flat sheet–haven’t since I was like 8–because it just gets all bunched up and I don’t make the bed anyway. Just a fitted sheet and comforter/blanket for me. I don’t like paying for a full set of sheets if I’m only going to use the fitted.

Both of my kids have two sets of sheets and both of my kids use two sets of sheets.

I sent 2 sets in case he got sick. He never opened the second set and I think he washed the ones he used about once a month! Same thing with the towels - he used one set.

I had one set this past year and survived, but it’s much nicer to have an extra set in case of spills, stains, visitors, or just a change in mood. :)

Sheets? My freshman roommate slept in his sleeping bag.

2, one for the bed and one for the toga party.
